New Super Mario Bros. Wii has become the Wii's latest best selling title. Super Smash Bros. Brawl was the previous holder of the title, selling 816,000 titles in the first week of availability in Japan. According to an an article by Kotaku, translated from Famitsu, NSMBW has sold 936,734 copies between December 3rd and 6th alone becoming the Wii's fastest selling title.
While Nintendo has not released sales figures for the US as of yet (they are expected by the end of the week according to Gamespot), it has been on the top of the charts of Wii titles, followed by Wii Fit Plus, Wii Sports Resort, Mario Kart Wii, and Active Life: Extreme Challenge Bundle.
According to Jesse Divnich of the Electronic Entertainment Design and Research group, it is expected that New Super Mario Bros Wii will surpass the global sales of Modern Warfare 2. He believes that it may sell over 15 million copies in the course of its lifetime (despite MW2 having higher initial sales).

This could be that New Super Mario Bros. Wii was released a month before the major Christmas shopping began and Super Smash Bros. Brawl was released in March and no one really cares as much in March as they do in November/December.

One of the other big things that is making the analysts thing it will surpass MW2 (which I'm perfectly fine with, I could care less about MW2) is that Mario is huge in Japan while MW2 isn't really well received.
